Progress on Arabian horse portrait

The pastel of Spirit the Arab is coming along nicely as you can see here:

The client has chosen a soft light blue background which I think is a great choice and will set Spirit's head off nicely.

Portrait of Holsteiner Claudius finished

It's finished! I really enjoyed drawing this beautiful young chap. Please note that the background is really cream/beige, not yellow. Thank you, scanner. ^^

And another update!

Busy day! I've spent about 6 hours today working on Claude's portrait and I think it is looking quite promising! ;o) This should be the last WIP scan - hopefully I'll be able to finish the portrait tomorrow afternoon.

Arab head study WIP

I got some work done on the pastel of the chestnut Arabian gelding. This is how far I got:

'Spirit' is six years old and was bred in Poland. Seems I've drawn quite a few chestnuts lately!

Two new horse portraits started

As promised earlier, here are a couple of scans of new pencil drafts. One is of a chestnut Arabian horse called 'Spirit', the other one is of a bay Holsteiner gelding called 'Claudius'.

I am looking forward to drawing these beautiful horses! :o)

Friesian mare in charcoal started

Some of you may remember the Friesian filly I drew last year. I am drawing her again now - this time her owner wants to give the portrait away as a present. Again the horse will be drawn in charcoal as it is such a wonderful medium for black animals in particular!

I am also going to do two pencil drafts today and should be able to upload them later. One is of a Holsteiner gelding, the other one of an Arab. So watch this space!
